See. Surf. Eat. (Repeat)

Welcome to our surfers guide to Cape Town, this stunning city by the sea.

We hope our guide-blog can do justice to this beautiful place and help you on your adventures.

Here you can find some of our recommendations and insights to the surf spots, view stops and eatery's in the area. What better way to travel and experience adventure than at the tip of Africa.

See

Chapmans Peak Drive

Take the road out the city and discover one of the most beautiful drives in the world. With views over the ocean to the distant horizon, let your dreams drift as you make your way down the peninsula.

Slangkop Lighthouse (Kommetjie)

Definitely worth a visit is the quiet surf town of Kommetjie which boasts a beautiful cast-iron early 20th-century lighthouse. Take the boardwalk from the cove as you absorb the amazing views up the peninsula over the ocean with the mountains rising above.

The Cape Point Reserve

A very beautiful unique reserve at the tip of the Cape Peninsula also known as the Cape Of Good Hope. Home to many wild animals including Caracal, Ostrich, Baboon, Buck and not forgetting the aquatic life!

At the tip you can see the Cape Point Lighthouse as well as Diaz Beach.

Smitswinkel

This little seaside neighbourhood is only accessible by foot, making this gorgeous cove on the border of the nature reserve very special. A small beach with stunning sandstone cliffs stretching down. Good for snorkeling or a picnic on the beach. Remember to always leave a place better than when you found it.

Kalk Bay & St James

Cute little villages on the Indian ocean side of the peninsula, where the water is warmer. Kalk Bay known for its' unique fashion shops and its' small fishing harbour, is vibrant and trendy, a good stop for the Mrs! St James has a beautiful tidal pool for a refreshing Wim Hof session. Dalebrook is also a popular tidal pool stop. Warm up afterwards at one of the many seaside cafes.

Surf

Llandudno Beach

Our local break, a notorious sandbar, this surf spot is known for its' technical waves and icy waters. Although with the right conditions, there is fun for everyone! Make sure you pick your day or swing us a message for a surf update.

Llandudno is special with its' small beach, the granite boulders and mountains. It must be one of the most picturesque places to surf. Braving the conditions is an experience! The wave is known to be very fast and technical especially in the corner known as 'The Gat' (meaning hole in Afrikaans). On big days with strong winds, it is advised for inexperienced surfers to surf on the middle bank or left side of the beach. When the swell is small and wind low, Llandudno becomes a beautiful playground. Have fun on the longboard or learn about the ocean and how to surf.

Tide Pushing-tide | Wind SE | Swell 1.5m+ W/SW

The Hoek

Tucked in the corner of Long beach, below the road is a rad wedge. It is a steep technical right-hander sandbar break. Beautiful setting. Cold water. General offshore in summer SE makes it barrel.

Tide Low-tide | Wind SE | Swell 2m+ W/SW

Noordhoek Beach

A renown beach break that picks up a lot of swell and churns out hollow waves! There are many peaks that dot the long expanse of sand, 5km in total, hence the nickname Long Beach. The best known surf spot is The Dunes, about 3/4 of the way down the beach. The wave needs a good SE offshore to barrel.

Tide Mid-tide | Wind SE | Swell 2m+ W/SW

Kommetjie

There are a few good surf spots around Kom, and why it is well-known as a surf town as well as the top surfers who have come from here! You have big wave surf spots such as Sunsets, a fun beach break at Long Beach and awesome reef waves at Outer Kom. Worth exploring.

Witsands

A beautiful beach with white dunes and fun waves when the banks are good. There are lots of left and right-handers on both ends of the beach. Worth checking out as you drive down along Misty Cliffs where you could also find some powerful waves.

Tide Mid-tide | Wind Low | Swell 1.5m+ W/SW

Muizenberg

The centre of surf culture in Cape Town. Boasting many cool cafes and surf stores with great longboarding waves. The surf community are really friendly and it's a great place to have fun.

Insider Tips: Don't bother surfing on a SE wind! Best in winter, autumn or spring.

Eat

South Yeaster Bakery

An awesome family run business with humble beginnings, it has become one of the stars of Hout Bay. Providing very good quality and delicious sourdough creations to a wide following of bread and pastry lovers. All their pastries are made from fermented sourdough in support of gut health.

It's a nice place to meet with friends, get a bit of work done or grab something on the go. Find their mellow cafe close to Hout Bay beach.

Insider Tips: Must try one of their very interesting Kimchi and Gruberg croissants! Or on the sweet side their chocolate Bino Boys.

Hout Bay Coffee & Roastery

A cool coffee shop tucked away in the heart of Hout Bay. Offering original blends and beans from all over the world, roasted and hand sorted on sight by the intriguing owner Paul. His coffee is a must as well as his book about his time with the Bushman of the Kalahari.

Dario's Cafe

This cafe is always vibing, with it's authentic Italian swag, Dario's is a good place to fuel up! There are many options on the menu and a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. We enjoy the sports enthusiasm and family qualities that Dario's shares.

The Foodbarn Deli

Located at the Noordhoek Farm Village, the Food Barn has become a well-known restaurant and deli. It's definitely worth a stop to load up on some local delicacies or wholesome baked goods.

Sunshine Cafe

A sweet garden setting in sunny Scarborough. Sunshine Cafe is a relaxing place to spend some time. Beautiful plants around, art on the walls and sweet treats in the fridge!

Blended Health Cafe

One of our favourites for a long time in the beautiful setting of Glencairn. This health cafe has much to offer. From smoothies to juices and their scrumptious vegan burgers and wraps, it definitely fills the gap. Worth a stop at the eat, surf, yoga lifestyle centre.

Yoffi Falafel

One of the best go to post-surf munch down corner shops in Muizenberg! Serving up homemade falafels on pita bread with all the tangy sauces and sides to give you delight and get you going again. We love it!
